Cuomo’s comeback to news reporting is being challenged by all kinds of people. He is being both mocked and criticized on social media because he announced that he was getting a new primetime show on a small news channel.
“I want to find a way to help people. I’m going to come to NewsNation. And I want to build something special here,” Chris Cuomo said in an interview with his new employer.
He added, “I had decided that I can’t go back to what people see as the big game. I don’t think I can make a difference there. I think we need insurgent media. I think we need outlets that aren’t fringe and just trying to fill their pockets.”
Cuomo spoke right to viewers and had the audacity to give them a warning. He said they should not trust people who tell them, “Don’t listen to anybody else, only listen to me.”
Didn’t Cuomo just tell them to listen to him?
“I’m going to do the job. I’m going to go where the news is, and I’m going to try very hard to be fair,” Cuomo claimed. “And I want to do it here. I want to make a difference. And I’m really hoping that it makes a difference for you [the viewer]. And I thank NewsNation very much for the opportunity.”
The backlash was immediate!
Dagen McDowell from Fox News said, “I missed Chris Cuomo like I miss the shingles.”
Brent Bozell from Media Research Center: “NewsNation lost any credibility they had by hiring Chris Cuomo.”
Gretchen Carlson wrote: “Former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo – fired for journalistic ethical violations & accused of sexual
harassment – lands a primetime gig at @NewsNation 6 months later.
She then questioned why women who come forward about harassment never work again. She said, “Why are we OK with this?”
The Washington Post reported that NewsNation is aiming to provide “down-the-middle, unbiased news reporting and analysis.”
I wonder how left-leaning Cuomo is going to fit in that middle
He was fired while under investigation at CNN over his alleged role in aiding his brother, then-New York Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo, get around a sexual misconduct scandal that ultimately led to his resignation.
