Well, the woman who once rallied to keep the US National Anthem out of WNBA basketball games, is now clamoring and trying everything she can think of to get back to the United States. I bet she’d pay a million bucks to hear the anthem being played at a home game, right about now. Brittney is chilling in Russian prison right now, awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to possessing marijuana, medical or otherwise, which is illegal to have in Russia.
Fox News reported that Brittney Griner was back in a Russian courtroom on Tuesday as her defense team attempted to lay out the reason why she brought marijuana through a Moscow airport five months ago.
Griner pleaded guilty to a drug charge earlier this month. She was accused of bringing in vape cartridges containing oils derived from cannabis through a Moscow airport in February and has been detained ever since. She has yet to be sentenced and could face up to 10 years in jail.
Griner’s defense argued she used medical marijuana to treat pain from injuries like many other professional athletes. Medical marijuana is against the law in Russia.
“With the prescription in place, Brittney may have used it for medical but not recreational purposes,” lawyer Maria Blagovolina said in court, via Reuters.
Another hearing was then scheduled for Wednesday.
During the trial, a U.S. Embassy representative fainted in the courtroom. According to Russian media, the embassy representative tried to leave during the hearing and fainted at the door. The person was reportedly taken to the hospital. It is unclear why the person fainted.
Wow. On a side note, I wonder what the fainting person’s vax status is. As for Brittney, it’s clear that she has no faith in Joe Biden bringing her home, so she’s trying to come up with a new plan on her own. Well, I actually don’t blame her. If my entire life hinged on Joe Biden coming to my rescue, I gotta tell you, I’d bend over and kiss my hiney goodbye. Those are not good odds. And speaking of that, her family is frustrated. At the beginning of this month, Brittney’s wife says she had heard nothing from the US government about the release of her wife. Has anybody checked to see if Biden even remembers that this happened, because I doubt he does?
Many people believe Brittney is right where she belongs, and it’s unfair to use our resources to bring home a spoiled and entitled athlete who broke the law in another country and is now paying the price. They believe she should see this through and finish her sentence. Brittney faces up to 10 years behind bars.
